Just finished reading Animal Farm. Still astounded. Wondering if anything at all written decades ago has changed. Haven't we as a race managed to polish the idea and take it to the next level? Call it evolution if you will. Powerful thoughts on power. It corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Elections for the general secretary post were held. Democracy in action. Except that well educated, urbane and mature individuals with more than adequate knowledge of civics still considered factors quite irrelevant while voting. Regionalism, language and class divisions (of the academic kind, sec A, sec B blah blah) were overwhelming considerations. Dissenting voices silenced. Bored citizenry. Lack of a real contest. Yours truly decided to optimise by reading the above mentioned book. In a democracy, we get the government we deserve.
