How to identify a "dad has transferable job" kid :P

1. Easiest tip - Check whether the person has studied in a Kendriya Vidyalaya. We are prone to singing random KV prayer songs with full senti when we think no one is looking :D

2. Ask the kid where is he/she from. If the answer is on the lines of "well, I am a Tam, grew up in Punjab and did my college in Orissa....", then you know. We are also known to answer that question by just stating the current place of stay, thus eliminating a 5 minute speech. Or if we want to suck up, we will just ask you where you are from, and say “oh, I lived there as a kid…” thus creating some immediate bonding ;)

3. We celebrate a weird mix of festivals. Rakhi, Diwali, Bihu, Ganesh Chaturti and AP new year is a common mix :D

4. We DO NOT fill in the school column of our profile on any social networking site...We can't afford to, coz half the population on the site is likely to identify us as a classmate or senior at some point of time.

5. You will sometimes catch us debating passionately about the merits of the Indian Railways or why the Green Revolution was good for India. Don't mistake it as some deep interest in Indian History and Civics. Our parents just happen to work in some of those offices.

6. We are well positioned to understand any Indian accent. Even when we don’t even know the language in question! So u think there is no way anyone can ever understand what your professor from Patna is saying? Try us.

7. Some of us have weird accents ourselves. Like speaking English with a Mallu accent, Hindi with a Bombaiyya one and Tamil in a…well, non Tam accent. (true story!)

8. We happen to have some insane love for books. Mainly because they were our sources of comfort on our first days in strange schools in almost foreign lands where we would be teased mercilessly. Also, books are also the only way we got through those 30-40 hour train rides in younger days, much before flights became affordable.

9. We are known to keep track of STD rates in an obsessive maniac way. Makes sense, considering a combination of atleast two of our four immediate family members are in some other part of the country, at any point of time.

10. In FMCG and general management job interviews, when asked for a location preference, we stare blankly and say we are cool with anything. If they persist, we state that we would prefer the North in particular. That is about as specific as we can get ;)

P.S.: The back-story is that I don’t happen to know where I am going to spend the next one-two months starting the 15th of October. I am slightly fretting about packing and tickets and things like that. And my folks don’t even care!! It is no big deal, apparently K

Superb post!
Could identify with all the points myself. :)
One more point from personal experience:
ALL the identifying documents (Passport, DL, College ID Cards etc.) have different addresses making them all pretty much useless for address verification.

Cheers!
